Avoid FREE Website submissions

Introduction.

There was a time when it paid to manually submit a website to a search engine. Those days appear to be over.

The Way Things Are.

Be very, very, hesitant about devoting time to sites offering "free URL submission", or some such thing. In the world of major crawler-based search engines, you're just wasting time.

Crawlers find your site more quickly with incoming links from other websites. They all say, "Submitting a URL is no guarantee a site will be spidered." With most search engines, the free submission is a red herring.

Free submissions.

As far as other sites offering free submissions -- know what is involved before doing it. Many of these sites are link farms. These links are useless. Linking TO them, from a website, often results in penalties.

Many sites offering free URL submission also require an email address. The reason is to sell the email address to spammers (ahem ... direct marketers).

The Most Important Thing.

The primary goal of getting links, to your website, is to acquire them from relevant, quality websites.

Find out who are the authority, or hub sites, in your industry. See if there are opportunities to get a link from those sites. You may have to link to them, as well. That's actually something providing benefits in some search engines. They like to see sites participating in the hub/authority structure of the web.

Getting the links to come to you.

Best of all, produce scintillating content on your website. This attracts other sites to want to link to you. They do it without even asking.

Brush up on your writing skills. Plan, then deliver, an excellent series of articles and/or newsletters covering your web site topic. Do it with the kind of information other sites want to show their visitors.

Conclusion.

Time is best spent creating top-quality content. Don't waste time hunting for links, while neglecting content. Avoid spending time getting useless links, from irrelevant sites offering "free URL submission."
