Using images to increase link popularity

Introduction.

In some cases, there needs to be an improvement in understanding the value of a link. In others, the knowledge is there, but not the willingness to be imaginative. This includes the willingness to create specialized content (or sites) for improving link popularity.

Linking possibilities.

The value of a reciprocal linking strategy includes a range of methods. They are used depending on the situation. One approach is to concentrate on getting one-way links from willing authorities. Another is to create your own hub.

Optimized links.

It is not difficult to understand the skepticsim surrounding traditional link campaigns. This is not because it is ineffective at getting links. Rather, it is the links gained tend to be SEO-knowledgeable type links. They are likely to be downgraded, if this area (as it surely must be) becomes a source of focus for the search engines.

Some good examples of SEO-type links are DMOZ, Wiki, and affiliate links. They proved to be effective in the past. However, once the search engines recognized how they were manipulated, their power diminished.

Using image links.

In the spirit of being imaginative, here's a concrete suggestion. It seems using image links has resulted in some success in the search engines.

Many webmasters react, with horror, at the thought of someone pirating their images. Instead, why not think of it as an opportunity?

Check your logs to see which images are being taken. Write the user a polite email. Say you have no objection to them using your image. But, if they put it on their server, could they please provide a link which reads "yadda, yadda, yaddda".

The pages where you do want links (.edu, .gov, or blogs, for example) may well be embarrassed. If so, many times they are only too happy to provide you with what you have politely requested.

Look at the images wanted. Analyse them. Now, provide more of the same type on your sites.

Conclusion.

It's another way of being an authority and increasing link popularity.
