Start using CGI proxy

What is a proxy?

A web proxy protects your identity on the web by creating a barrier between you and the websites you visit. Instead of directly broadcasting your IP address to a web page, the IP address of the proxy is used. The proxy stands between you and the web, while still allowing you to visit websites and see web pages.

CGI Proxy/Anonymizer/Web Proxy.

There are different types of proxy server. They are known as CGI proxy, anonymizer, or web proxy. Regardless of the name, each blocks your IP address, web browser, and operating system from being broadcast on the web.

A CGI proxy server gets web pages, without sharing any of your personal information (IP address, browser, operating system, cookies, etc.) with the requested web site.

The proxy lets you view web pages, while sending your requests from another location. It stands between you and the web. Anytime you request a URL, using a CGI proxy, the request is seen as originating with the proxy. Hence, a website gets the proxy information, not yours!

When you submit a request (press 'Enter' or the 'GO' button), using a CGI proxy, the response (web page) is displayed. However, the address, in the address line, is different. Here is an example. Suppose you want to go to Yahoo and your URL is www.yourURL.com.

http://www.proxy.com/http/www.yourURL.com/path/

http://www.proxy.com/http/www.yahoo.com/

With CGI proxy servers, anonymous surfing is possible. Visit any web page. No need to change browser settings, nor use additional programs.

CGI proxy supports HTTP and (sometimes) FTP protocols.

Proxy Types.

There are four different types of proxy server. For performance purposes, HTTP and CGI proxies are identical.

  • Transparent.

A proxy which is not anonymous. It identifies itself to a web server, as a proxy server. secondly, it "gives away" the IP address of a client.

  • Anonymous. A proxy which identifies itself to a web server. It DOES NOT reveal the IP address of a client.

  • Distorting.

A proxy transfering an IP address to a remote web server. However, this address is a phantom. It is randomly generated, by a proxy server or any fixed (not yours) IP. It distorts your IP address, from the web server’s point of view.

  • High anonymity.

A proxy which does not send your IP address, to a remote computer. In fact, a remote computer does not know a proxy server is being used! So, a web server "thinks” it is working directly with a client.
