LCD TV has a larger "sweet spot" for optimal viewing.
Digital Light Processing (DLP) TVs generally cost less.
LCD panels slowly decay with time, as will its backlight(s).
DLP technology is not as accurate, but the colors do not shift over the course of its lifespan.
Lamps in DLP units are replaceable (sometimes easily), which returns them to their original brightness levels.
LCD TV has better color saturation and brightness.
Both are effective as computer monitors.
LCD vs. Plasma
LCD has several benefits over plasma. LCD screens run much cooler than the average plasma TV. They require less power to operate. Often, Plasma TVs run so hot, they require a fan to cool them. This is noisy.
Plasma screens have a tendency to degrade over time. They slowly become dimmer. LCDs do not degrade over time. Also, LCD screens tend to have better picture quality. Typically, they are 10, to 15, percent lighter than plasma.
Looking forward.
Although Plasma has outsold LCD, there is likely to be a trend in the opposite direction. The only obvious downside, to LCD, is its currently high price. Comparatively, LCD is twice as expensive as Plasma. However, as the price of LCD comes down, it is likely to be the overwhelming choice, of flat-screen TV consumers.
LCDTV (LCD TV).
Liquid crystal display television uses LCD technology (generally TFT). This contrasts cathode ray, or plasma, for its visual output. LCDTV DLP Plasma
Early LCD panel television had difficulties displaying fast-moving action. It had quite restricted viewing angles. In recent years, these problems have been largely overcome.
LCD TV in the marketplace.
The market for LCD televisions is booming, especially in Asia. For a long time, it was believed LCD technology was only suitable for smaller-sized televisions. Therefore, it was not a competitor with plasma technology, at larger sizes. LCDTV
This belief was undermined by the announcements of ever-larger panels, by companies such as Sharp Corporation, Samsung, and LG.Philips. In October 2004, 40" to 45" televisions were readily available. Sharp Corporation announced the successful manufacture of a 65" panel.
In 2004, Samsung and Sony joined forces, to build a factory in South Korea. It intended to produce 60,000 panels a month. In March 2005, Samsung announced an 82" HDTV TFT Panel. The major manufacturers have pledged to invest billions of dollars, in LCD production, over the next few years. Televisions are expected to be a key market. LCDTV DLP Plasma
Perhaps, the best-known brand, of LCD televisions, is Sharp's Aquos range.
LCDTV capabilities.
Modern LCD TV sets are geographically universal. They have a multisystem tuner. It displays PAL, NTSC, and SECAM norms. They include an electronic (step-down/step-up) transformer. It automatically uses 110/200 V AC indifferently and universal grounded adapter plugs.
