Aftercare - Free Tattoo designs.

Aftercare, for a new tattoo, has been debated for many years. Tattoo artists recommend a variety of products, available from your local drug store. These products prevent cuts, burns, scrapes, and abrasions from becoming infected. They are not intended for the healing of new tattoos.

Primarily, these products contain petroleum or lanolin. When applied to a new tattoo, it is not unusual for them to clog skin pores and actually retard the healing process. Also, there is the possibility of allergic reactions, to these products. Sometimes, applying these, to a new tattoo, causes skin reactions. This leads to loss of ink and permanent damage to the tattoo.

Treatment - Tattoos.

New tattoos are wounds. They MUST be looked after properly. After completing the tattoo, immediately most tattoo artists cover the area. This keeps out dirt and prevents the tattoo from oozing into clothes. Sometimes, the area is wrapped in clingfilm, paper towel, poultry packs (that come in chicken packs) or gauze.

Some tattoo artists recommend keeping the tattoo covered for several hours or overnight. This is followed by gently washing the area. In Japan, they soak the tattoo in hot water, to clean it.

Recent developments.

In the recent years, new cosmetic and pharmaceutical aftercare products have become available, specifically for the tattoo world. These are safe, efficient, and dermatologically-tested products. Many tattoo artists recommend them and sell them in their parlors.
