Salvage, wrecked, and totaled vehicles.

One third, of totaled vehicles, have no documentation showing the vehicle was once sold as salvage.

Each year, over 400,000, "totaled" vehicles are sold for salvage and return to the road.

"Salvage" or "Recondition" titles on vehicles are useful to dealers, and wholesalers. Why? They have the titles "cleaned", before the vehicle is sold to the general public.

A big concern for used-car buyers is "recycled vehicles". Some, in the used-car industry, sell these "totaled" vehicles, without informing the buyer. These, once-salvaged, vehicles create a financial and safety risk for the general public.

How do these "salvage" vehicles return to the road?

The process of vehicle total-loss damage and salvage.

A vehicle is declared a total loss, by an insurance company. It results from either collision damage, fire, flood, theft recovery, etc. This means the vehicle is prohobitively expensive to repair to mechanical, and/or structural safety, standards. Therefore, the vehicle is only suitable for parts.

After a total loss, the title is surrendered back to the State. The State issues a salvage certificate. The salvage wreck is sold to a salvage yard, or through salvage auction. damaged wrecked porsche for sale

Under the table.

Unethical repair shops, and dealers, buy salvage vehicles. They try to repair them. Or, they cut-off, or "clip", the good sections. They re-assemble these sections to create another vehicle.

Many, of these salvage vehicles, only have the cosmetic parts fixed. This leaves structural components still damaged, and not repaired. Often, these cars look good, with a fresh coat of paint. However, they are structurally, and mechanically, unsound. They are worth only a fraction of the book value.

Remember, these repaired vehicles were declared "Totaled". They were sold for parts!

Clearing the title.

These repair shops cosmetically repair these salvaged vehicles. They make sure they roll down the street in a straight line. Now, they are ready to be sold in the used car market. What about the title?

A car, rebuilt from salvage, has the title designation of "Recondition". "Reconditioned" means the vehicle was rebuilt from salvage. To clear the title, it is "washed" or "cleaned". This is done by transferring the title to a state not using "Recondition", or other discrepancies, on their titles.

Selling the "salvage".

With a "clean" title, the vehicle is ready for sale. They are sold at auctions, or sold to the public. These, once-salvaged, vehicles sometimes appear at reputable dealerships. They have no idea the car was built from salvage.

There are many used car dealers, wholesalers, auctions, and curbstoners selling vehicles with questionable histories. The incentive is profit. Often, dealers make twice the profit selling a used car, rebuilt from salvage. Ultimately, the general public purchases, finances, and drives these vehicles. They have no knowledge it was once totaled. damaged wrecked porsche for sale

Comparing new and used.

New cars are built using computer automated robots, to make precise welds. These welds are made on perfectly formed metal, in a controlled environment. This creates a structural cage, designed to protect passengers.

Vehicle safety.

In a collision, structural components, of vehicles, are designed to absorb the energy. This is done by crumpling, and deforming, the frame. This allows protection of the passenger compartment.

Reconditioned safety.

"Reconditioned" vehicles are not recommended for purchase. There is the potential for chronic mechanical problems. There is no way to determine if the vehicle is structurally sound. In a minor collision, the car's frame is likely not to protect the passengers.

Remember this: Rebuilt wrecks are not subject to federal safety standards.

Sometimes, vehicles reconditioned from flood damage do not have structural problems. However, these cars have chronic electrical, mechanical, and rust problems. This greatly decreases the value of the vehicle. damaged wrecked porsche for sale
