Tutorial: Guide to Starting a Website - For Beginners

So You're Starting a Website...

That's good to hear. And let me tell you, it is easy, cheap and fairly quick to do. Isn't that great? No sales pitches, no paying some web designer 50 bucks an hour, and no need for specialized training. Just you and your computer, 1 on 1.

Would you pay $ 100.00/hr to get a letter typed? Even $ 50.00?

I'm guessing the answer is NO. And the reason is quite simple; because you can type the letter yourself!

If you have Microsoft Word or Works or some other word processing program on your computer, all you have to do is open it up and start typing.

Starting a website has become a simple task as well. It's all about the tools, you see, just like writing a document in Word. So why should you pay obscene amounts of money for something that you can do for free?

The "typical" way.

Normally in these types of 'Starting a Website' tutorials, you are bombarded with HTML code and technical terms. I think that's a silly approach. If someone doesn't know what a house is, you can't start by teaching them about how the wiring and plumbing works!

Sure, I will address a lot of technical issues found in other tutorials. But... NOT in this one. Here, you will be shown the "Big Picture". I will try and teach you all the major aspects of starting a website so you know exactly what is involved from start to finish.

Before we go into detail, I think it is important to mention the three main subjects beginners need to know for starting a website.

  • Domain Names
  • Web Hosts (or 'hosting companies')
  • Web Pages
In the following free tutorial, we will go through each of these three elements, touching upon the most important aspects of each.
