Promoting Websites for First-Time Webmasters (newbies)

Introduction.

For first-time, internet, entrepreneurs (newbies), there are a few ways to promote websites.

Express inclusion.

One of the quickest ways to get a website in a search engine index is with a blog. It doesn't really matter what you write, just be consistent. The blog content does not have to be relevant to the website, at all. The only requirement is to continue to add content regularly.

Sprinkle links to your web pages throughout the blog. This has the dual effect of getting search engine attention and traffic from the blog. When linking, use keyword-rich text. These keywords are terms search engines use to find websites.

Maximize offline marketing.

Promote websites exactly the same way you promote normal businesses. Tell everyone about it. Word of mouth is still the best way, to promote new businesses.

Put your motto and logo, along with your url address, on everything. Put it on a pin to an anchor. This includes stationery, pens, letterheads, postcards, flyers, posters, in your usual email, the list goes on...

Try placing classified ads in the local newspapers (sounds strange, doesn't it?). Run other programs, such as sponsoring quizzes, prize competitions, trivia and other participating programs with the website address. Ask readers to submit the answers to a quiz by visiting the website.

Do whatever it takes to get the local community to know the website exists. You can do it !!

Target Promotional Campaigns.

Most startup webmasters usually make the mistake concentrating on too many ways to promote their websites. They quickly become confused deciding what works best. What works best is only determined with careful evaluation of each and every advertising scheme used on the web today.

Promotional options.

Here are some examples:

1. Publisher/advertisers programs
2. Banner exchanges
3. Exit ads
4. Pay-Per-Click
5. Link Exchanges
6. Ad Networks
7. FFA (free-for-all), classified ad posting
8. Rotator pages
9. JavaScript based pop-ups etc
10. RSS feeds
11.Search Engine Optimization
12.Adwords by Google

Test to know.

Its interesting no seller of the above services ever takes the time to evaluate your website. Knowing a website helps to determine whether or not your site is suitable to receive the service. The best approach is to evaluate, evaluate, evaluate. Not everything out there works for everybody.

Test your website across every platform, say with a 10000 visitor package each. Assess the outcome one by one. Some work better than others. However, the ones returning the higher rate of response don't necessarily mean the most profitable. What matters is the cost for the same traffic per 1000 visitors.

Conclusion.

The recommendations in the first two paragraphs work best for first-timers. It is the most prudent approach. What works for seasoned campaigners, of internet marketing, doesn't necessarily work the same way for the starter.

Websites are unique like fingerprints. Its now your duty to determine the most economic, effective, and efficient approach to promote it.
