Advertising Marketing websites

Introduction.

Advertising and marketing are important for the commercial website. It is important to have an understanding of their place, in any business strategy. While some believe one is more important than the other, they are both required for a sustainable business.

Marketing to get sales.

Some form of marketing is required for any sale. This includes an offer as simple as "Hey, buddy. You want to buy this half a sandwich?" The request, the look on my face, the light hitting the bread....it is all marketing in a dull form.

No matter how you slice it, you need to provide some exposure of the fact something is for sale. Plus, there needs to be a front for selling it. Many are practicing marketing, before having something to sell.

Creating the right conditions.

You don't need a product, to market the idea of something. Show a commercial during the Superbowl. Add a word-of-mouth campaign about the great sandwiches you have. With this, you generate a buzz about that, in general.

You have captured an audience. Let's call it "sandwich curious". It doesn't matter what you are selling them, yet. Simply define them as customers. At any point, you decide what to sell them, now that they are at your door.

Optimizing the response.

You have to consider what attracted people to you. This helps you determine the best use of the potential buyers. You know what will turnover at the best rate, for these particular prospects.

Marketing is a means of herding buyers before the sale. The sale is not needed to market, but all sales rely on the marketing, at some level.

Communications.

The goal, defining the marketing as "good", is directly related to the communication and planning occurring between it and advertising. The more closely Part A represents Part B, all the better for your rate of conversion, in the end.

This is manifested in the fantastic flash site. It is sitting on page #179 in Google, selling harry potter figures. There is something for sale, but the website doesn't sell a thing. Part B doesn't exist without Part A.

On the flip side, suppose you have both part A and B reflecting each other. If you market "FANTASTIC NEW THING", it sells without anyone knowing what it is.

Conclusion.

Both marketing and advertising are important for commerce websites. One creates, or identifies, the customers to sell the product. Advertising gets the word out to these customers.
